What is small business bookkeeping?

Small business bookkeeping is the monthly process of recording, categorizing and reconciling every transaction your business makes, so your financial records match reality. At Kingsley Accounting Group we reconcile all bank, credit card and loan accounts each month, categorize transactions against a chart of accounts built for your industry, and deliver a profit & loss statement, balance sheet and cash flow summary by the 15th of the following month. Pricing is a flat monthly fee based on transaction volume and account count, so it never changes without you agreeing to it first.

Sound familiar?

These are the situations that bring people to this service most often.

You find out how the business did three months after the fact, if at all.
Your bank feed has hundreds of uncategorized transactions sitting in "Ask My Accountant".
The balance sheet has an "Opening Balance Equity" line nobody can explain.
Tax season means a frantic month of rebuilding a year of records from scratch.

What’s included

Every engagement covers the following as standard. Nothing here is an upsell.

  • Monthly reconciliation of every bank, credit card, loan and merchant account
  • Transaction categorization against a chart of accounts structured for your industry
  • Accounts receivable & payable tracking so you always know who owes what
  • Fixed asset and depreciation schedules kept current through the year
  • Monthly financial statements: P&L, balance sheet and cash flow summary
  • A short written summary flagging anything unusual we noticed that month
  • Year-end close and tax-ready file handed to whoever prepares your return
  • Direct access to your accountant: email or phone, not a ticket queue

How it works

Diagnostic review

We look at your current file, bank connections and last filed return, then tell you exactly what shape your books are in: free, and in writing.

Clean-up and setup

We fix prior-period errors, rebuild the chart of accounts if it needs it, and connect every account to an automated feed. One-time fee, quoted upfront.

Monthly rhythm

Books close by the 10th. Statements land by the 15th. You get a short note on anything worth your attention, and a quarterly call if you want one.

What you receive

Profit & loss statement

Monthly and year-to-date, with prior-period comparison so trends are obvious.

Balance sheet

Fully reconciled: every line traced to a real account, no plug figures.

Cash flow summary

Where the money actually went, which is rarely what the P&L implies.

Frequently asked questions

Most of our monthly bookkeeping engagements fall between $350 and $1,200 per month, driven by transaction volume, number of accounts to reconcile, and whether payroll and sales tax are included. You get a fixed quote after the free diagnostic review, and it does not change mid-year.

We work in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, and we also support Xero. If you are already on a platform that works, we use it. We only recommend switching when the current setup is actively costing you time or accuracy.

Yes, catch-up work is one of the most common reasons people call us. We quote catch-up separately from ongoing monthly service, work backwards from the most recent filed return, and tell you upfront if amended returns are likely to be needed.

Yes. Kingsley Accounting Group is a boutique firm by design. You have a named accountant who knows your business, and Dariel reviews every engagement.
